Alessandro Michele’s magpie vision for Gucci has real appeal Down Under. On the streets and in the front rows his pearl-studded loafers, Dionysus bags, and “Blind for Love” knits were everywhere, second only the stocking boots his fellow Kering designer, Demna Gvasalia, created for Balenciaga.

Earlier in the month, Alessandro Michele’s models circulated a black pyramid in an enclosed airport-esque runway. And in New York, Alexander Wang showed a concert-worthy collection at Harlem’s RKO Hamilton Theater. Besides the blockbuster hits, Bernhard Willhelm had a compelling presentation in an eerily decorated Parisian space. But what united all of these shows, was their ability to draw drama from their surroundings. In each instance, the setting helped reinforce the themes of the clothes, while avoiding too literal of a connection.
